What does American Golden Care cost?

Rooms at American Golden Care in Westland start at $3,500 a month. The final rate depends on how much daily help your loved one needs. We go over those needs at your visit, and you get the monthly number before you decide anything.

Do you take Medicaid or VA benefits?

Yes. American Golden Care accepts private pay, the Medicaid waiver, and VA benefits. Every family’s coverage is different, so we check what your loved one qualifies for before move-in. Call or text 734-890-5377 and we will walk you through it.

Is this adult foster care or assisted living?

Both. The State of Michigan licenses American Golden Care as an adult foster care home, license AS820419945. Some people call it a group home. Inside, it works like assisted living in a real house: six beds, help with daily care, and staff on site around the clock.

Is someone there overnight?

Yes. Staff are in the home 24 hours a day, every day, including overnight. With only six residents, help is close by at any hour, for the bathroom, getting around, or medicine. American Golden Care is a nurse-owned home in Westland, Michigan.

How soon could someone move in?

Often within 24 to 48 hours once the doctor’s orders and care plan are in place and a room is open. American Golden Care has private and shared rooms. We go over timing with you at your visit. The date is not set until the paperwork is done.

Is this a nursing home?

No. American Golden Care is a licensed adult foster care home, not a nursing home. Six people live in a real house in Westland with staff on site day and night. We help with bathing, dressing, meals, and medicine. Registered nurses are available for wound care.

What help do residents get?

Residents at American Golden Care get help with bathing, dressing, toileting, meals, and getting around. Staff manage and give medicines, and the pharmacy delivers. We do laundry, serve home-cooked meals planned around each diet, and drive residents to doctor visits and dialysis in the home’s van.

Can you care for someone with memory loss?

Memory loss by itself is fine at American Golden Care. Staff help with daily routines, medicine, and meals. We do not have a locked unit, so we are not the right home for someone who wanders or tries to leave. We go over your loved one’s needs at your visit.

Can you help with medical needs?

We can talk through insulin, a resident’s own oxygen unit, rides to dialysis, and home health visits. Registered nurses are available for wound care. American Golden Care reviews each medical need with your family before move-in, so you know what we can and cannot do.

Are there private rooms? Can couples share?

American Golden Care has two single rooms and two double rooms. A married couple can share a double room, depending on both people’s needs and what is open. We show you each room on your tour.

Can we visit before deciding?

Yes. Tours of American Golden Care run 7 days a week by appointment, with at least 2 hours’ notice. Pick a time online or call 734-890-5377. You will see the rooms, meet the team, and ask your questions. A visit is a conversation, not a commitment.

Who runs the home?

Johnpaul Nwogu, a nurse, owns and runs American Golden Care. Before he became a nurse, he worked in an adult foster care home like this one. The State of Michigan lists our home as Golden Westland, license AS820419945.

What is a normal week like?

Home-cooked meals, help with daily routines, and time for company. Most weeks at American Golden Care include games, music, a movie night, and a meal out, with park visits when the weather is good.

Where is the home?

American Golden Care is at 29635 Julius Blvd, Westland, MI 48186, on a quiet street in Wayne County. It is about 10 to 15 minutes from Livonia, Garden City, Inkster, Wayne, Canton, and Romulus, and about 15 to 20 minutes from Dearborn Heights, Plymouth, and Taylor.
